Golf Cart vs. Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV)

First, it's important to know the difference.

A golf cart is designed to travel at speeds of 20 mph or less.

A Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) can travel more than 20 mph but no more than 25 mph and must be registered, titled, and insured to operate on public roads where permitted.

Because the rules are different, knowing which type of vehicle you own is the first step.

Is Golf Cart Insurance Required?

If you use a traditional golf cart only on private property or in places where insurance isn't required, Florida law may not require you to carry insurance.

However, if your vehicle qualifies as an LSV and is driven on public roads where allowed, Florida law requires it to be insured, just like other motor vehicles.

Even When Insurance Isn't Required...
